James was born on August 12th, 1725 in Cedar Creek, Hanover Co., VA. James' father was Andrew Crew and his mother was Hannah Ellyson. His paternal grandparents were John II+ Crew and Sarah Osborne+ Gatley; his maternal grandparents were Gerard Robert Allison and Sarah Spence Crew. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Joseph H., John, Andrew, Benjamin, Sarah and Hannah. He died about 1785 in Probably Hanover Co., VA.General Notes
