Alexander was born in 1472 in Mathers, St. Cyrus, Kincardineshire, Scotland. Alexander's father was David Barclay and his mother was Jonet Irvine. His paternal grandfather was Alexander Barclay and his paternal grandmother is Catherine Wishart. He was an only child. He died about 1520.General Notes
