Simon I was born about 1073 in Bedfordshire, England. Simon I's father was Baron Hugues de Beauchamp of Bedford and his mother was Princess Matilda Taillebois of England. His paternal grandfather is Robert de Beauchamp; his maternal grandparents were Rolf de Taillebois and Azeline. He had two brothers named Walter and Payne.
