Hugh was born about 1233 in Of Wigmore, Herefordshire, England.1 Hugh's father was Ralph de Mortimer and his mother was Gwladys verch Llewellyn. His paternal grandparents were Roger de Mortimer , Baron Wigmore and Isabel Millicent de Ferrers; his maternal grandfather was Llewelyn I Fawr ap Iorwerth , Prince\Wales and his maternal grandmother is Tangwystl verch Llywarch. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Roger, John De, Peter De, Maud, Joan and Isolda De. He had a half-brother named William. He died about January 1273.1 General Notes
