Maud was born about 1148 in of Pembroke, Pembrokeshire, Wales. Maud's father was John (1St Baron) Marshall and her mother was Sibyl Devereux. Her paternal grandparents were Gilbert FitzRobert Marshall and Miss De Venus; her maternal grandparents were Walter d'Evereux Salisbury Sheriff of Wiltshire and Sibyl De Chaworth. She had four brothers and a sister, named John, William, Anselm de, Henry and Margaret. She is the third oldest of the six children.General Notes
