Vladimir 'the was born in 0960 in Kiev, Kiev, Ukraine. Vladimir 'the's father was Svyatoslav I Suitislaus , Prince of Kiev and his mother was Malusha of Lubech. His paternal grandparents were I, Prince of Kiev Igor and Grand Duchess of Kiev Olga; his maternal grandfather is Prince of the Drevlianes Malk. He had two half-brothers named I and Grand Prince of Dereva. He died at the age of 55 on July 15th, 1015 in Berestovo, Kiev, Ukraine. Vladimir, Saint (circa 956-1015), grand prince of Kyyiv, whose baptismmade Orthodox Christianity the official religion of Russia. Born inKyyiv, Vladimir was a pagan at the beginning of his reign, which was atfirst devoted to consolidating his territories into a unified Russianstate. In exchange for helping the Byzantine emperor Basil II suppress arebellion, Vladimir was allowed to marry the emperor's sister, Anne, atwhich time (988) he accepted Christianity. Allied to Byzantium byreligious and family ties, Vladimir introduced Byzantine civilizationinto Russia by building churches, suppressing paganism, and making socialreforms. Nonetheless, he remained open to Western influences, which arereflected in his legislation.
