Richard was born about 1114 in Cruelly, Normandy, France. Richard's father was Robert De Caen Earl De Gloucester and his mother was Maud Fitz Hamon. His paternal grandparents were "Beauclerc", King Of England Henry I and Sybilla Corbet Lady of Alcester; his maternal grandfather was Robert Lord De Orelly Fitz Hamon and his maternal grandmother is Sybil Montgomery. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Roger, Hamon, William Of Gloucester, Philip Fitzrobert De, Robert, Mabel, Mabira de, Maud Fitzrobert De and Juliana. He was the third oldest of the ten children. He died in 1175.-
