William Mafonache was born on November 23rd, 1116 in Gloucester, Gloucestershire, England.  William Mafonache's father was Robert de Caen the Consul Fitzroy Earl of Gloucester and his mother was Maud Amabel Sibyl Fitz Hammon Countess of Gloucester.  His paternal grandfather was "Beauclerc", King Of England Henry I; his maternal grandparents were Robert FitzHamon Earl of Gloucester and Sybil de Montgomery. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Hamon, Philip, Richard Fitz Robert de, Roger, Mabira de, Maud Fitzrobert De and Mabel.  He was the second oldest of the eight children. He had two half-brothers named Richard and Robert.  He died at the age of 67 on November 23rd, 1183 in of Cardiff Castle,South Glamorgan,Scotland.  He was buried in Keynsham Priory,Somersetshire,England.
