Charles Duke of Lotharingia 
Charles was born in 0953 in of Laon, Aisne, France. Charles' father was Louis IV d'Outre-Mer King of France and his mother was Gerberge of Saxony Abbess of Notre Dame. His maternal grandparents were Henry I "the Fowler" Holy Roman Emperor and Matilda von Ringelheim. He had four brothers and a sister, named Lothair, Louis, Henri, Charles and Mahaut. He had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named Henri, Alberade, Biltrude and Gerberga. He died at the age of 39 on May 21st, 0992.General Notes
Charles spread rumours that his brother King Lothaire of
France's wife Emma was committing adultery. Fleeing from
Lothaire, Charles sought refuge with Otto II of Germany, who
inexplicably gave him a dukedom. Angered, Lothaire invaded
Germany and took Aix-la-Chapelle. Then Otto invaded France and
took Rheims, Laon, and Soisson, plundering far and wide. Otto
advanced as far as Paris, planting his banner on the heights of
Montmartre. As a fresh French army was gathering to resist him,
he contented himself with ravishing the countryside and
withdrawing to Germany.
