I, King of Austrasia was born about 0600 in Soissons, Aisneons, France. I, King of Austrasia's father was Clothaire II Meroving , King of all Franks and his mother was Haldetrude Bertrude De Burgundy. His paternal grandparents were I Chilperic , King of Soissons (Neustria) and Fredegunde De Soissons; his maternal grandparents were Duke Of Franconia Richemeres and Gertrudis Duchess Of Franconia. In 623, Dagobert's father, Chlotar II, King of the Franks, made himkingof Austrasia to please the leading Austrasian nobles: Mayor of thePalacePepin I and Saint Arnulf, Bishop of Metz.
When Chlotar died in 629, Dagobert became sole King of the Franks, andhemoved his capital from Austrasia to Paris. Later, Dagobert leftthecouncil of Pepin for a more flexible Neustrian Mayor of the Palace. In632, he was forced to put his three-year old son Sigebert on the throneofAustrasia as the nobles were in revolt, however Pepin was not madehisMayor of the Palace.
The Neustrian nobles then wished to unite with Burgundy, and so theyurgedDagobert to put his son Clovis II as king of both those kingdoms,althoughhe was only 5 years old and could be easily manipulated by thenobles.When Dagobert died in 639, the nobles of the kingdoms controlledboth hissons, now puppet kings.
