His paternal grandfather was John De Assheton Knight and his paternal grandmother is Miss Standish; his maternal grandparents are John Savile and Isabel radcliffe. He had three brothers and six sisters, named Thomas, Laurence, John, Lucy, Margaret, Elizabeth, Katherine, Agnes and Anne. He is the fourth oldest of the ten children. He had a half-brother named Ralph.-
