Lewis J. was born on November 30th, 1841 in Green Co., Kentucky.1 Lewis J.'s father was Abraham Hiram Underwood and his mother is Mary Roark. His paternal grandparents were Caleb Underwood and Elizabeth Mary Wardrum. He had five brothers and six sisters, named William A., James S., Samuel S., Rev., Abraham Vanzill, Randol Monroe, Cynthia, Elizabeth, Jane, Nancy A., Caroline Nancy and Mary E.. He was the sixth oldest of the twelve children. He died at the age of 74 on January 26th, 1916 in Taylor Co., Kentucky.
