Her paternal grandparents were Francis Jr. Smalley and Elizabeth Hicks; her maternal grandparents are Nathaniel Younga and Mercy Davis. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Joshua, John, Priscilla, Hannah and Hannah. She is the third oldest of the six children.
