Margaret was born in October 1818 in Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania.1 Margaret's father was Ralph Benjamin Means and her mother was Hadessa Nancy Whitsett. Her paternal grandparents were Adam Means and Margaret Hutchinson; her maternal grandparents are William Whitsett and Hadessa Crawford. She had three brothers and three sisters, named William, Ralph Whitsett, John T., Hadessa, Nancy and Emily. She is the oldest of the seven children.General Notes
