Thomas served as an Ensign in the Virginia Militia during the Revolutio
na ry War. In 1778 he was granted a license to operate and "Ordinar
y"  or roa dhouse where travelers could obtain food, drink and lodgin
g. In 1789, he s old this business to his brother in law, Edward Mosele
y, Jr. He and his fa mily then moved to Henry County, Virginia, where he b
egan a partnership wi th Peter Perkins operating "Bouldin and Perkins Ir
on Works" . In 1804 he p urchased the interest of Peter Perkinsand renam
ed it Thomas Bouldin and So ns Iron Works". Tho;mas had acquired approxima
tely 1500 acres of land betw een Smith River and Horse pature, along Gras
sy Creek, and operated Tobac co fams.  His wife Martha was the oldest daug
hter of Captain Edward Mosel ey and his Wife Amey Green, and a third cous
in of President Thomas Jeffers on. Her Mother, Amey green was daught
er of william Green and Amey Clay, t he great-aunt of Henry Clay, the not
ed American statesman form Ashland Ken tucky, who served as Secretary of S
tate under President John Quincy Adams( 1825-1829) .Thomas is buried ne
ar Grassy Creek in The Bouldin Family Cemet ery. Regretfully, all that rem
ains there is his marker and that of his son .
