Hillory H. was born on January 21st, 1827 in Bedford Co., Virginia.1 Hillory H.'s father was Nathaniel Basham and his mother was Elender (Ellen) Ross. His paternal grandparents were Archibald Basham and Winna Jons; his maternal grandparents are John Ross and Elenor Mitchell. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Robert, John Floyd, Sylvester, Benjamin, Ellis L., Cena, Eleanor and Mary E.. He was the third youngest of the nine children.
