Divorce record:
William and Susan Watson - married on December 24, 1881
William was from London, Ontario, Canada. He
asked for the divorce and
filed for it on October 15, 1898. The reason was
extreme cruelty (although
that doesn't mean much since there weren't very
many options to choose from
so he might have selected it for lack of a better
option). The divorce was
not contested. The divorce was pending (they
generally took several years
to be granted). They had five children at the
time of the divorce request.
Marriage record:
William Watson married Mary Patterson on April
19, 1902. The both lived in
Detroit. It says he was from Canada and works as
a teamster and she was
from Michigan. He states he was 41 at the time
of the marriage, but he
might have been lying since that age conflicts
with census records, etc.
His father is also William Watson, and his mother
is Rebecca Hudson. Her
father was John Patterson, but there is no known
maiden name on her mother.
The minister was John Sweet. The witnesses were
Louis and Daisy Mitchell
from Detroit.
