Edmund was born in Llangoed, Llyswen, Breconshire, Wales.1 Edmund's father was Roger De Mortimer and his mother was Philippa De Montacute. His paternal grandparents were Edmund "Sir" De Mortimer and Elizabeth de Badlesmere; his maternal grandparents were William De Montacute and Katherine de Grandison. He had a brother and two sisters, named Roger, Beatrice and Margery. He died on December 27th, 1381 in Dominican Friary, Cork, Ireland.
