Jabez William Butler 
Jabez William was born on February 6th, 1822 in Amite Co., Mississippi.1 Jabez William's father was John Butler and his mother was No. 267 Butler. His maternal grandfather was Hurd and his maternal grandmother is Smith. He had six brothers and seven sisters, named Zacariah Pollard, Stephen Heard, John Hicks, William, Jesse James, Marion H., Hicks, Malinda, Amanda, Cynthia Jane, Nancy Catherine, Marinda and Lunda. He was the seventh youngest of the fourteen children. He died at the age of 61 on October 20th, 1883.1 General Notes

Listed as deserted. Supposedly went home to see his pregnant wife and could not get back to his unit because of heavy union patrolls. Said to have dug a cave in the hills behind his home near Brushy Creek and hid out. Whittled durnig the day and would sneak home some nights.
