J. Edward was born in 1883.1   J. Edward's father was J. Edward Burns and his mother was Bette Shugart.  His paternal grandparents were Caleb Burns and Jane Amanda Locke. He had a brother, and also a sibling of unknown gender named Colin Carrell and Burns.  He was the second oldest of the three children.  He died at the age of 77 in 1960.1
