Clay was born on March 3rd, 1803 in Tazewell Co., Virginia.1 Clay's father was Micajah Bailey and his mother was Naomi Shufflebarger. His paternal grandparents were RICHARD Patton Bailey and ELIZABETH Anne Belcher. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Reuben B., Micajah, John H., James, Isaac, Rhoda, Matilda, Elizabeth and Sarah. He was the second oldest of the ten children. He had a half-brother named William.1 -
