probably before Oct 1 147, in which Hawise , d aughter of Ear l Baldwin de
Red v ers, made a gift to Q uar r Ab bey jointly with her husband, Rob ert

son of the Earl o f Gloucest e r. CP, 5 : 686 states Robe rt was a
natural
son o f Earl Ro bert and that he w a s named c1160 in a chart er an d is
addre ssed in a writ fro m King Henry I I as Caste llan o f Glouceste r.
