Dorcas was born in 1635 in Of, Westmoreland, Virginia. Dorcas' father was Thomas Youell Ewell and her mother was Anne LEE. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas YOWELL and Ann STURMAN; her maternal grandparents were Richard Henry LEE and Anna Constable OWEN. She had a brother and five sisters, named Thomas, Ann, Elizabeth Ann, Penelope Ann, Jemima and Winifred. She was the oldest of the seven children.
