Jenney was born in 1794. Jenney's father was James William Thaxton and her mother was Lucy Guill. Her paternal grandparents were James X Thaxton and Elizabeth Clarke; her maternal grandfather was Alexander Sr. Guill and her maternal grandmother is Hannah Rice. She had eight brothers and three sisters, named Alexander H., John H., Nathaniel, James C., Charles, William, Yelverton, Thomas, Martha, Elizabeth and Lucy. She is the fourth oldest of the twelve children.-
