Benjamin was born in 1807 in Fairfield County, South Carolina. Benjamin's father was Edmond TIDWELL and his mother was Anna (Or Ann) HOLLIS. His paternal grandfather was Richard J. TIDWELL and his paternal grandmother is Rachael HELMS; his maternal grandparents were Moses Senior HOLLIS and Rosannah (or Hagan) Berry. He had eleven brothers and five sisters, named UNKNOWN, Isaiah, UNKNOWN, UNKNOWN, Richard, Edmond, John B., UNKNOWN, UNKNOWN, Aquilla, Silas, Rebecca?, Jane, UNKNOWN, Kisiah and Elizabeth. He was the youngest of the seventeen children. He died at the age of 46 in 1853 in , Dickson, Tn.General Notes
