Sir John of Elliotstown was the oldest son of John. He was one of thosewho was involved in several negotiations of state in 1421 and was one ofthe Scot's commissioners appointed to work with the English for theliberation of James I. He went to meet King James I on his return fromcaptivity at Durham on December 13, 1423. John was knighted by King JamesI about 1430. He was auditor of the accounts of the Island of Bute.
