Maria Christina was born on November 29th, 1790 and her baptism took place on February 13th, 1791 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church,Shenandoah County,Virginia. Maria Christina's father was Adam Schindler and her mother was Christina Query. Her maternal grandparents were Johann Nicolaus Quirin and Anna Margaretha Bauer. She had two brothers and five sisters, named Adam, Daniel, Margareth, Susannah, Esther Charlotte, Catharina and Elisabeth. She was the fourth oldest of the eight children.-
