Maria's father was Pieter Willemse ROOME and her mother was Hester VAN GELDER. Her paternal grandparents were Willem Jansen (Janszen) ROOME and Jannetje JANS; her maternal grandparents were Johannes VAN GELDER and Tanneken MONTENAC. She had four brothers and seven sisters, named Willem, Johannes, Jacob, Pieter Pieterse, Jannetie, Janneken, Jannetken, Mariah, Ariaentje, Hester and Anna.
