"This Jacob Persinger....The last time he was taken by a Widow Persin
ger who had lost her son, and was given the name of her lost son, Jac
ob Persinger. He spoke only Shawnee, and she spoke only German....Bu
t he never ceased to search for his parents. He learned of a family b
y the name of Godfrey in Southern PA who had had a child stolen by th
e indians at about the time he was stolen, and of about the same age
. The Godfrey boy was playing about his father's mill when he was tak
en, and Jacob Persinger rememberd that he was at his father's mill wh
en the Indians tood him...When JacobPersinger visited the place, h
e found that the family had been gone for manyyears. But the facts t
hat he learned concerning them connected up with whathe himself coul
d remember and convinced him that he was the lost Godfrey son.He go
t a certificate of the recorded birth date of the Godfrey boy, Jan. 1
9, 1749 and adopted it as the date of his birth, but he retained th
e name ofJacob Persinger."

"In the name of God, Amen. I, Jacob Persinger, Sr., of the County o
f Alleghany and the State of Virginia, being in good health, southmin
d and disposing memory, do herebymake this my last will and testamen
t inthe manner and form following, to wit:
First, I give and bequeath to my beloved son, John Persinger, the who
le of my estate, both real and personal, exceptas herein named.
Second, I give and bequeath to my bleoved daughter, Mary Carpenter, d
eceased (that is) to her daughters now living two hundred and fiftyd
ollars to be divided in equal portions between them in current mone
y of Virginia.
Thirdly, I give and bequeath to my beloved son, Andrew Persinger, tw
o hundred dollars.
Fourthly, I give and bequeath to my beloved son, Joseph Persinger an
d Alexander Persinger, each fifty dollars, the one fifty to be paidb
y Joseph Persinger to Alexander Pesinger, out of bond I hold of Josep
h Persinger, the balance to himself.
Fifthly, I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter, Elizabeth Fudge
, two hundred and fifty dollars in current money of Virginia.
Sixthly, I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter Martha Rose, on
edollar.
Seventhly, I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter, Susanna Reed
,(that is) to her daughter, Polly, fifty dollars, and if she is no
t living, to the next eldest daughter.
Eightly, I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter Nancy Callaghan
, fifty dollars.
Ninthly, I give and bequeath to my beloveddaughter, Sally Wright, fi
fty dollars.
Tenthly, I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter, Jane Persinger
, three hundred and fifty dollars in Virginiacurrent money. Also 1 h
orse beast to be valued between sixty and seventy dollars, also six o
r seven head of cattle, and the same number of sheet and all her bedd
ing, and furniture and clothing which she now owns, also her spinnin
g wheel, bureau, pot, oven, set of knives, forks, plates.
Eleventhly, I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter, Granville Cla
rkston, three hundred and fifty dollars in Virginia money.
Twelfth, I also bequeath my servant, Catharine,to be set free at th
e same time as Daniel.
I do hereby ordain, constitute,and appoint my beloved son, John Pers
inger and my grandson, Samuel Carpenter,Jr., as my executors of thi
s my last will and testament directing them to pay unto said legatee
s above named, the several sums bequeathed and given to them in thi
s my last will and tesatment within the period of three years afterm
