Samuel Patton was a Revolutionary War soldier from 1778 - 1782. He firstenlisted in the North Carolina Malitia in 1778 and served in variouscampaigns throughout North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia as aninfantryman and wagoneer. On his last enlistment he served as a scout ina company of militia of the forces of General Charles McDowell in hiscampaign against the Cherokee Indian Nation who had allied with theBritish and were raiding along the frontier. He was allowed aRevolutionary War Soldiers Pension (#S8934) on his application executedon October 19, 1832.
DAR PATRIOT INDEX: Centenial Edition, Part 3, Page 2247, gives Samuel'swife's name as Mary Johnston. Genealogical Abstracts Of Revolutionary WarPension Files, Vol III N-Z, Page 2622 reads as follows: PATTON, Samuel,NC Line, S8934, soldier was born in 1761 or 1762 in Rowan County NC andhe lived there at enlistment and later moved to Burke County NC and alsoenlisted there and lived there until March 1820 then moved to BuncombeCounty NC where he applied 19 October 1832. He died there 18 October 1851leaving no widow but leaving children who in 1857 were; William, John,Thomas and James Patton (Thomas and James were of Buncombe County in1856), Margaret wife of Hugh Lawhorn, Naomi or Naoma wife of PeterStradley, Elizabeth or "Betsy" wife of James Stradley, Nancy wife ofCulvin Fore and Sarah "Sary" Patton. In 1856 one Mont Patton was aresident of Buncombe County NC but his relationship to soldiers family isnot given.
