Martin F. was born on January 3rd, 1822 in Smith County, Tenn.. Martin F.'s father was Jeptha Moore MEADOR and his mother was Sarah HIRES. His paternal grandparents were Joel MEADOR and Sarah "Sallie" MOORE; his maternal grandfather was Lewis HIRES and his maternal grandmother is Mary Ann (Mariam) UNKNOWN. He had seven brothers and two sisters, named Ambrose, Joel B, Matthew, Iredil, Elias, Granville, Simon W, Mary and Mary Ann. He was the fourth youngest of the ten children.
