Joseph Newton was born on May 4th, 1839 in Madison County, IL.1 Joseph Newton's father was Robert McKee and his mother was Nancy Cornelison. His paternal grandparents were David MCKEE and Ann Dunlap. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Robert, William Patton, Letitia, Miriam, Jane and Nancy Melisse. He is the fourth oldest of the seven children. He had three half-brothers and three half-sisters, named John, James Barber, William Watson, Mary Ann, Margaret Elizabeth and Sarah Amanda.-
