Francis Alma was born on August 12th, 1843 in , Hancock, Illinois. Francis Alma's father was Alexander KEELE and her mother was Minerva Keele DIXON. Her paternal grandparents were Richard John KEELE and Nancy Eleanor (Ellen) MCCULLOUGH; her maternal grandfather was Solomon DIXON and her maternal grandmother is Sarah BURGER. She had five brothers named John Wesley, Francis Alma, Henry Jefferson, William Dabney and Alexander. She was the second oldest of the six children.
