Sotha Jr was born in 1773 in Quiet Dell, Harrison, West Virginia. Sotha Jr's father was Sotha HICKMAN and his mother was Elizabeth DAVI(E)S. His paternal grandparents were Arthur HICKMAN and Mary UNKNOWN. He had four brothers and six sisters, named Arthur, Elias, Zachariah, Thomas, Comfort, Nancy, Lucretia, Cynthia, Elizabeth and Rebecca. He was the second oldest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 65 on April 27th, 1838 in , Harrison, West Virginia.
