His paternal grandparents were Wilhelm II "der Mittlere" Landgrave Of HESSE and Anna Princess Of MECKLENBURG; his maternal grandparents were Georg "The Bearded", Duke Of SAXONY and Barbara Princess Of POLAND. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Wilhelm IV "The Wise" Landgrave Of, Ludwig IV "The Elder" Landrave Of, Philipp II "The Younger" Landgrave Of, Georg I "The Pious" Landgrave Of, Agnes Princess Of, Anna Princess Of, Barbara Countess Of, Elisabeth Princess Of and Christine Princess Of. He was the fourth oldest of the ten children. He died at the age of 1 on August 31st, 1535.General Notes
