Gilbert was born on September 29th, 1775 in Treetown, Bristol, Massachusetts. Gilbert's father was Gilbert (Twin) HATHAWAY and his mother was Elizabeth (Eliza) WILLIAMS. His paternal grandparents were Capt Ebanezer HATHAWAY and Wealthy GILBERT; his maternal grandparents were Nathaniel WILLIAMS and Mary ATHERTON. He had four sisters named Tryphena, Wealthy, Polly and Elizabeth. He was the second youngest of the five children. He died at the age of 88 on December 11th, 1863 in Canton, Oxford, Maine.General Notes
