Ambrose was born about 1727 in Essex Co., Va. Ambrose's father was Thomas GATEWOOD and his mother was Elizabeth Dudley. His paternal grandparents were John Gatewood and Amy Mc Graw; his maternal grandfather was Richard Dudley and his maternal grandmother is Elizabeth UNKNOWN. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Robert, Thomas, Rachel, Amy, Elizabeth and Sarah.General Notes
