In the name of God Amen. I Charles Brightwell Senr being of sound mind domake this my last will hereby revoking all others. 1st It is my desirethat at my death that all my just debts should be paid. I also wish thatall my estate remain in the hands of my beloved wife Nancy if she choosesto keep it during her life if she survives me. 2nd I wish to give to thechildren or bodderly [sic] heirs of my daughters Rachel, Rhoda & Pollythat may be liveing [sic] at my death fifty dollars each. 3d I wish theballance [sic] of my estate both real and personal to be equally dividedamongst the ballance [sic] of my children except my daughter Elizabeth A.Jenkins which I desire to have one hundred dollars [_____] to be given toher and the lawful heirs of her boddy [sic]. 3d The negroes which I havebefore given to my children at valuation say to my son William one Negroboy Pleasant at one hundred & fifty dollars to my son Barnett U one negrogirl Crecy at one hundred and forty dollars, to my daughter Peggy onenegro girl Mahaly at Two hundred and seventy five dollars. to my daughterElizabeth A one negro girl Cely at one hundred and fifty dollars (carred[sic] over) each to have them at the valuation as above in making adivision of my estate. I appoint my sons William & Barnett U. Brightwellmy executors with orthority [sic] to sell all my lands for a division.
Given under my hand this the 19th January 18 hundred & thirty seven.

At a court held for Prince Edward County February the 15th 1847. Thislast will and testament of Charles Brightwell Senr decd. was presented incourt, and Robert Venable and Charles Brightwell witnefses thereto, beingboth dead, and John B. Davis another witnefs thereto, having removed fromthis state. Henry B. Brightwell and John J. Brightwell being sworn, eachsaid they were acquainted with the hand writing of the said RobertVenable and Charles Brightwell the witnefses thereto, and that theirsignatures are in their proper hand writing and that they are both dead,ordered that the said will be recorded. On the motion of WilliamBrightwell executor herein named, he with Thomas H. Venable, Anthony W.Gilliam and Henry Hubbard his securities entered into and acknowledgedtheir bond for the purpose in the penalty of six Thousand dollarsconditioned according to law, and Took the oath required by law.certificate for obtaining a probat [sic] Thereof in due form is grantedhim.
