She had three brothers and six sisters, named Thomas Erskin, George Broadus, Clarence Justus, Mai, Minnie Minerva, Elsie Pauline, Hattie Christine, Catherine Margaret and Elizabeth French. She is the fourth youngest of the ten children.-
