Preston was born in 1831. Preston's father was Sion Bradford BASS and his mother is Sallie PHILLIPS. His maternal grandfather was Benjamin PHILLIPS and his maternal grandmother is Lydia *PHILLIPS. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, Edward Price, Elias Benjamin, John B, Sion Bradford, Eliza, Mary Ann, Margaret Malissa and Emily. He is the fifth oldest of the ten children.-
