Eleanor De was born about 1246 in Bernard Castle, Gainford, Durham, England.  Eleanor De's father was John De BALIOL and her mother was Dervorgilla De GALLOWAY.  Her paternal grandparents are Hugh De BALIOL and Cecily De La FONTAINE; her maternal grandparents were Alan De GALLOWAY and Margaret HUNTINGDON. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Hugh De, Alexander De, John, Alan De, William De, Cecilia De, Mary De, Ada De and Margaret De.  She is the fourth oldest of the ten children.
