His paternal grandparents were Theobald De Blois and Garsende De Maine; his maternal grandparents were William UNKNOWN and Matilda De Flanders. He had five brothers and six sisters, named Humbert, Philip, William, Stephen, Henry, Emma, Maud (Mathilda), Lithuise Adele, Agnes, Eleanor and Alice.
