Alan La was born in 0999 in , , Bretagne, France.1   Alan La's father was Geoffrey I de Bretagne and his mother was Havlive de Normandie. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Alan III de, Geoffrey II de, Robert de, William de, Adela de and Hawise de.  He was the second oldest of the seven children. He had four half-brothers named Ralph de GRACE, Richard, Rodolphe Wacy de and Guillaume.1
