WEBSTER, John (-1646) & Mary (SHATSWELL) (-1694), m/2 John EMERY 1649); ca 1627?, in England, Ipswich.
Book, Old Families of Salisbury & Amesbury, by David Hoyt
Book, Ancestry of Charles Stinson Pillsbury and John Sargent Pillsbury, by
Mary Holman 1938. John WEBSTER, born probably in England about 1605, died in Ipswich MA abt 1645-6. He was married about 1630 probably in England to Mary Shatswell, born there about 1610, died in Newbury, MA 28 Apr 1694, sister of Theophilus and John Shatswell. It is supposed that John Webster came to the colonies in 1634, as he was made a freeman in Boston, 4 Mar 1634. Before 1639, he moved to Ipswich, his wife's brothers being residents of that town, and was noted as an absent witness in a case there. In 1640 he is called "John Webster the baker," and in 1641, was again in a court case. In 1642 he was a member of the trial jury. Since administration on his estated was granted in Sept 1646, and as his youngest child Nathan was born in that year (he being aged 16 in 1662 and 35 in 1681) possibly a posthumous child, it is evident that he died very soon before the administration was granted. The inventory of John Webster's lands and goods was sworn to 29 Sept 1646, by his widow, Mary Webster, she being appointed administratrix. (Ipswich Quarterly Court Records, 2: fol 5.)
Book, Some of the Descendants of John Webster of Ipswich MA 1634, John C Webster MD 1912. Admitted a freeman at Boston MA 4 Mar 1634. He then went to Ipswich, MA and possessed a lot of land which was granted a Mr. Rogers in 1642. He was admitted a commoner by vote of the town 23 Feb 1644. His occupation was that of a baker.
