Mathilde was born in 1139 in Of, Heinsberg, Rheinland, Prussia.1   Mathilde's father was Goswin of II Heinsberg-Valkenburg and her mother was Adelheid of Sommerschenburg.  Her paternal grandparents were Goswin of I Heinsberg-Valkenburg and Oda of Walbeck; her maternal grandparents were Friedrich of II Sommerschenburg and Luitgard of Stade. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Goswin III, Philipp, Hermann, Gottfried, Uda and Salome.  She was the youngest of the seven children.  She died at the age of 50 on November 20th, 1189.  She was buried in Wechselburg, Leipzig, Saxony.1 1 


Mathilde's family with Dedo V 'Der Fieste' Count Groitzsch Rochlitz

‌Mathilde and Dedo V 'Der Fieste' Count were married in a religious ceremony before 1153.1   They had five sons and a daughter, named Count of Groitzsch, Count of Groitzsch, Margarve of Lower Lusatia, Count of Groitzsch, Count of Groitzsch and Countess of Rochlitz.
