Elias Smith 
Elias was born on December 28th, 1788 in Sussex Co., New Jersey, USA.1 Elias' father was George Smith and his mother was Anna Barbara Beuschlein. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Jacob, Christian, Margaret, Eufia, Elizabeth and HannahTanah. He died at the age of 78 on August 8th, 1867 in Newton, Pennsylvania, USA. Elias Smith came from Sussex county, New Jersey. In 1816, and purchased 400 acres for $1043.00 from Samuel Biard, of Stowe, Montgomery county, the patentee. He built a log house on the part now (1912) owned by his grandson, Curtis P. Smith, and built a wagon road ( area of 1-2 miles) from it to Ransom, which was the first road in this section,there being no foot path, not even a marked tree to guide him to his place. About 1822 he built the first framed house in Newton township, PA. He also Built the first saw- mill in Newton in 1816. Mr. Smith was born December 28, 1788, and was the so of George Smith who came from Germany. He was twice married, first to Miss Harriet Sarah Ayers, to whom four children were born, namely Harriet born August 7,1811 and married to John Thompson; Jacob, born March 29, 1813 died in Iowa; David Madison born March 5, 1815; Peter A. born February 5, 1817 and married Miss Sarah Compton. Elias was married a second time to Catherine Adams, March 27,1818 who was born February 5, 1789. To this union three children were born, namely; Sally born December 17, 1820; Margaret born April 22, 1821 and married Samuel Gardner; Elias A. born March 27,1827, and married Ann McGeever for his first wife, who died November 28, 1895. He was again married October 1, 1898, to Amy Barton.
Elias was a solider of the War of 1812. He died August 8,1867

Jacob was born on March 21st, 1813 in ,Sussex Co, New Jersey, USA and his baptism took place on July 3rd, 1814 in Dutch Reformed Church, Walpack, Sussex, New Jersey.1 He died at the age of 82 on January 25th, 1896 in Lodomillo Twp, Clayton Co, Iowa, USA. He was buried in Greenhill Cem, Clayton Co, Iowa, USA.1 1
Elias and Catherine were married in a religious ceremony on March 27th, 1818.1 They had a son and two daughters, named Elias A., Sally and Margaret.
