Captain John Libby accompanied his father from Lynn, MA and settled on a farm in Scarsborough. He was a land surveyor and lieutenant in Captain George Berry' s Company, 1745 and after the death of his cousin, Capt. John Libby, he acquired the title and kept it the rest of his life. He was drowned during a fishing trip in the Nonesuch River. The boat was upset and although an expert swimmer, he never rose. The other two passengers escaped and there were suspicions of foul play at the time.
