Roelof Kierstede 
Roelof was born in 1646 in New Amsterdam, Colony of NY.1 Roelof's father was Hans Kierstede and his mother was Sarah Roelofs. His paternal grandfather was Jacob Von Schriestadt; his maternal grandparents were Roeloff Jansen Van Masterlandt and Anneke Jans. He was an only child. He died at the age of 64 in 1710 in Kingston, Ulster County, New York.1 General Notes

d Jan. 1, 1647. Roelof was baptised in New Amsterdam probably at the Dutch Chu
ch. Roelof apparently removed from New York City up the Hudson River to the Du
ch settlement in Kingston. By 1668 he was the village physician. This was a tr
de likely followed as his father was also a physician and surgeon. Roelof was
Schepen and Fire Warden in Kingston in 1673. He maintained the Schepen positi

er : In regards to the Old Dutch Church in Kingston : page 63 : November 20,
1665 - Hans Khierstede (M.D.), removed. (Apparently Hans, the father of Roelof
was in the area and removed back to New York City. Perhaps he went to Kingsto
to help settle his son, Roelof, who would have been about 19 years old). On
ecember 30, 1666 - Members- Dr. Roelof Kierstede. Roelof was only about 20 yea
s old and held the position of doctor. Since he was a member of the church in
666, he is possible his marriage in 1670 was performed in this church. page 68
: On November 2, 1673 the Esopus became a Dutch appendage again. On that day S
hepens Cornelis Wynkoop and Dr. Roelof Kierstede took the Oath of Allegiance t
the States-General. Roeloff is translated to Ralph.
