The following was found at ancestry.com's web page on the internet

Edmund arrived in America 1663, settled in Charleston, MA.  Married 1st Margaret Dewey, 2nd Sarah Ann Lyford, widow of Rev. John Lyford.  Edmund was the first of the name to settle in America.  He arrived in Boston in 1633 aboard the Elizabeth Bonavennre.  Elizabeth I, the daughter of Henry VII and Ann Boleyn was then on the English Throne.  He was 29 years old when Oliver Cromwell was born.  Edmund arrived in America with his wife, his son Joshua, daughters Rebekah and Sarah, and his servant Henry Gibbs. He must have been a man of substance in England, for one of his sons, Peter Hobar, was a graduate of Cambridge University in England.  A university education in those days was a luxury only indulged in by the well to do.  He was made a Freemen March 4th 1633 and admitted to full cummion in the 1st Church of Christ in Boston 8/19/1634.  ***Edmund lineal descendent Garet A Hobart was inagurated Vice-President of the United States of America 3/4/1897.***

He stood 15th on the Freemen List and was one of ten citizens who, on 10/13/1634, agreed with increase nowill that only certain desirable persons should be allowed to sit down and dwell in the town.  In 1635 he was Constable of Charleston.  This same year he removed to Hingham, MA and assisted in organizing the 1st Church there, of which his son Peter was the 1st Pastor.  He was made Commissioner 9/16/1635; the function of that office being similar to those of Justice of the Peace nowdays, permitting him to Officiate at marriage ceremonies, a privilege then denied to most ministers.  He was Deputy to the General Court in 1639-1642 and was generally spoken of as Edmund Hobart, the Elder.

His second wife, commonly called Anne, was the widow of Reverend John Lyford, and Episcople clergyman from Loughgard County, Ireland, who was banished from Plymouth Colony in 1624.  She was a matron of good carriage and died 6/23/1649.

The name "Hobart" has a number of variants, ie: Hubert, Hubbard, Hubbart, and Hubbert.  The family is assumed to descend from "Euro, filius Huberti:, record in the Doomsday Book of 1086 and the work of Alvah Hobart states that Edmund is "descended from William the Conquerer....".

In search of religious freedom, Edmund Hobart emigrated from Hingham, Norfolk to Charleston with his son Thomas and several others in 1633, moving to Bear (Bare) Cove (later changed to Hingham, MA in 5/1633). Probably for the purpose of assisting in establishing a new plantation or township.  He is said to have been accompanied by two other children and Henry Gibbs.  Here is the following account of Edmunds emigration..."Elizabeth Bonaventure, John Graves, Master, left Yarmouth, the first week in May and arrived in Boston on June 15th, with 95 passengers.  The following emigrants from Hingham, Norfolk, who arrived this year probably came in this ship: Thomas Chubbuck of Hardingham, Norfolk, arrived Charleston, Mrs. Alice Chubbuck, Sarah Chubbuck, and Rebecca Chubbuck, Edmund Hobart of Hingham, Norfolk, Mrs. Margaret Hobart, Nazareth Hobart, Edmund Hobart, Thomas Hobart, Joshua Hobart, and Sarah Hobart.  Edmund's wife Margaret died four months after their arrival and he remarried the following years.

****Sources suggest that he was granted a Family Crest in England on 5/19/1575, when he was only 4 years old.****

Margaret was the mother of all his children.  All the children were born in England.
