The Griffiths of Penrhyn were one of the most powerful families in North Wales at the time and were a branch of the Tudor family descended from Ednyfed Fychan (d. 1246) and the Welsh royal and princely house.
Sir William of Penrhyn and Joan were married in a religious ceremony before 1480.1 They had two sons and a daughter, named William, Sir William II of Penrhyn and Alice.
